Work Parties!

Help us build and maintain the Ozark Trail by joining one of our work parties.  No experience is required, no tools are required, and you don't have to be particularly strong.  People of all ages are welcome, so bring your kids, grandparents-- even your dog.

So how do you sign up?  Simply click on the Sign Up button next to the outing you wish to volunteer for, or if the leader has an email address, you can click on the name of the leader to send an email.

Sawing on the Taum Sauk III - RESCHEDULE

We will be teaming up with the park staff from Johnson's Shut-Ins and working on the area west of Devil's Tollgate towards Proffit Mtn.

USFS Certified Sawyers are needed, along with swampers to help clear what is cut.

This will be fairly strenuous work, so if you are not up for it, please consider a different event.

We will meet at Taum Sauk State Park at the boy scout camping area. Further details will be sent out to those signed up a few days before the event.

FS Sawyer Recertification for Currently Certified Sawyers Only

3 year FS recertification to be held at Johnson's Shut-in State park. Meet at the Hwy N trailhead. Training will be completed on the loop trail by Brian Merkel. The recertification should be done by lunch time. You will receive or already have received a message from me or Ed Kindley if you are due up for recertification.

Blair Creek Annual Cleanup

Annual cleanup outing on the Blair Creek section.

This will be a joint outing with the Sierra Club. We'll be clearing the trail of brush, putting up signs and getting the trail ready for spring hiking.

The event will be based out of the National Park Service Resource Center near the Current River at Hwy 106. Camping will be available around the Resource Center at Powder Mill and there will be limited space available in the house to bunk.

Winona Weekend

This has become a favorite winter outing and you'll know why once you've done it!

We'll have camping in the yard or you can bunk down in one of the Forest Service bunkhouses, plus we'll have lots of food, campfires, stories and great times. We'll be doing tread reconstruction plus some general maintenance for a full day on Saturday and half-day on Sunday. More information to come.

St. Paddy's Day hike on the north end of the Courtois Section - March 17th

Wear your OTA green and come join us for an 'Erin go braugh' winter hike. Little people welcome! Don't forget your corned beef sandwich for the day! We will hike from the northern terminus of the Courtois Section at the Onondaga Trailhead to the Bass Resort, 12.4 miles or so. Meet at the Bass Resort parking lot at 8:15AM. From there we will shuttle through the Huzzah CA to the trailhead parking lot just south of the Meramec River near Ozark Outdoors to begin our hike from North to South. As always, dress for the weather, bring lunch and water. We will have a wet crossing across the Huzzah Creek so bring those water shoes too!

Courtois Construction Weekend

The Berryman maintenance that was scheduled for this date has been changed to a weekend of construction work on the Courtois. We will have crews out working on Saturday (3-20) and Sunday (3-21) and you can come out for just for one or both days and there may even be a chance for a crew on Friday (3-19).

This will be a no frills event.

Details still need to be finalize, but we hope to be basing out of Bass River Resort.

April Mega on the Courtois

This one will really be a 'MEGA event' for a reason - not only are these our largest events of the year, but could this be the event where we finish the Courtois Gap?

Join us and be part of the legacy of the Ozark Trail. Make new friends and lasting memories as you new trail through the hardwood/pine forests in the Courtois valley. We almost always fill up, so be sure to reserve a spot today.

Earth Day Hike on the Eastern Taum Sauk Section.

Join us on this Earth Day for the 40th anniversary of the event as we hike to explore the OT and see what's popping up out of the ground this Spring. We will first hike the 3 mile loop to Mina Sauk Falls, and possibly on to the Devil's Tollgate, then will hike on to the eastern trailhead along Hwys 21/72, 5-1/2 miles away. Total mileage for the day will be 8-1/2 to 10 miles. Meet at the trailhead parking area on Hwys 21/72 at 8:30AM then we will shuttle from there back to the top of Missouri on Taum Sauk Mtn in Taum Sauk Mtn State Park to begin our loop hike to Mina Sauk Falls. Mina Sauk Falls should be flowing good and there should be plenty of Spring wildflowers to see today. Don't forget your lunch, water, camera, and dress for the weather!

Berryman Maintenance I

We are going to be working on south end of the Berryman (Courtois) removing the built up berm from the trail and putting in some drain dips.

Camping will be available at the Berryman Campground

Big Spring Spur

For this new constructuon event we will be heading down south to work on a spur trail off the OT that goes over to Big Spring.
