The proposed trail route along Neal's Creek hits
a snag when we reach a rock outcrop. The AHS Volunteer
Vacation Crew decide to build a rock retaining wall in the creek to
get around the problem.

After surveying the area and envisioning the wall location, a
few rocks are put into place. |

We used several techniques to get large rocks; this is an 'austin'
looped over fence posts. |

After rolling the rock into the chain netting, the crew
carefully walks it over to the work area. |

The crew contemplate the first and most critical layer of rock,
and several adjustments are made. |

Behind the wall, fist-sized rocks are lodged into place. |

A mixture of soil, sand, clay, and rock is used to create a
smooth walking surface. |

The material is worked into the first few inches. |

Almost done! |

Another crew built a trail from the crib wall to the completed
multi-use trail to the south. |

This portion of the trail is foot-only and the tread is 18"
wide. |

A peaceful approach from the north. This is a very pretty
area. |
