Victory Section Completed

My wife and I started at the Upalika Pond TH heading east to the Wrangler TH on Saturday 3-21-15. Nice day, about 6 hours to finish. Someone has spent a lot of time and effort putting OT signs up. 90 % or better is well marked. No problems with water crossings. Never had to take the boots off. Did not see anyone else on the trail. The only area that needs some attention is where the tornado damage and restoration occurred in 2002. Lot of growth making the trail needing lopping, hedge trimming, and some sawing. Approximate area, one mile west of Wrangler to mile four on the maps. All and all, a nice hike.

The second day, Sunday, we started at Brushy Creek TH and hiked east to Brush Arbor TH. Another nice day and about the same amount of time to finish. Again someone has done a great job with the OT signs. Thanks. No water issues, dry boots. Some where around seed tick hollow heading east a couple on their horses and two dogs stopped and visited. Saw them again at Wrangler. Good visit. Some where between mile 13 and HWY A on the maps where the 2002 tornado damage and restoration occurred are a lot of big logs across the trail. Cut up logs all over. Not sure why they were left there. Can get through OK. Then, heading east bunches of small trees across the trail in the woods, everywhere. These trees about 6 inches in diameter. Makes no sense why they are there. Again got through OK. They were pine. Around mile 2 and 3 on the maps we had trouble following the trail at 408 and 3119 going east. Gated road ran parallel with the trail. Close to the gate is where it is confusion heading east. Needs Clearing and signing. Another good day hiking. The Victory is not a hard trail to hike.

This is a major victory completing the Victory section, and completing all the other sections of the Ozark Trail!

We returned to the Victory section last month to sign the trail from where 408 and 3119 meet, heading east to the creek. About a mile at most. The trail is just behind the gate where 408 and 3119 meet. The trail follows behind some old buildings where the growth hides the trail. Tall and thick. Worst area , maybe 100 yards or so. We put a lot of signs up. May not be able to see them because of all the growth that is taking place. We went in from the creek, and then went in from the gate to get as many signs up as we could. The best way around this part of the trail is to follow 3119 from the gate to just past the creek. Or if heading west ward stay on 3119 from the creek up to the gate. Gravel road, nothing steep, and you will enjoy your hike a lot better. Can't be more than a mile. Runs parallel to the trail. I am not sure when this area of the trail will be cleared.
