I'll be coming down next week for this 35mi trip with my 2 sons. Hopefully will complete it in 5 days or so. Never been to the Ozarks before and would appreciate any feedback you locals have to offer. Thank you

Great section to hike. Check out some of the "Trip Reports" on this section if you haven't already done so.

Enjoy,
Mike

How old are your boys? I overestimated the miles my 11 yo could handle. At 11 , 7 mile days were long but enjoyable. Those rocky hills can kick your butt.

Well I have 2 boys, 13 & 11. I'll be carrying more weight but 9 mile days will be long. I hope I'm not taking on too much with them and if I have to cut the trip short then I will.

My 11 yo isnt super athletic and we did 9 miles the last day. I just made sure his pack was as light as possible. Since I carried all the food my pack got lighter everyday so I kept grabbing stuff out of his pack so mine stayed the same and bis was super light by the end... around 15lbs. We took lots of breaks....even naps in the afternoon sun.. Make it fun..bring marshmellows, hot cocoa packets..i even allowed my son to bring his ipod touch for the tent at night.

Overall I found it best to have a loose plan. If you get tired, stop and camp. If your feeling frisky..keep hiking. Youtube has some nice videos of what to expect.

Now my problem is my son thinks the boy scout campouts at the local place are boring
