Trip Report - Wappapello/Victory Section

Postby Danno » Sun May 17, 2009 8:09 pm

Date: May 17, 2009
Trail: Victory Section at Hwy 172 near Poplar Bluff (orphaned eastern section)
Time in: 11:50 am
Time out: 2:15 pm
Weather: 60-70 degrees and sunny
Distance: 4.5 miles in and then back (9 miles total)

Notes:

I decided to do this trail because I was fairly certain it wasn't damaged by the high winds in early May. It was untouched - there were not trees over the trail. This is a good trail. You can certainly tell it’s used a lot by horses. That was good in that it made it easy to follow. I saw no other hikers – I did see 3 horses in 2 groups.

The trail includes lowland woods, hills and fields. There really weren’t any WOW spots, but overall a very pretty trail and not too difficult.

Date: October 3, 2009
Trail: Wappapello from Sam A Baker to Hwy 34
Time in: 7:30 am
Time out: 11:30 am
Weather: 45-70 degrees and sunny
Distance: 4.2 miles in and then back (8.5 miles total)

Notes:

Mostly flat trail in woods with an occasional cleared area. Saw no one on the trail. The trail is used by horses but there was not any sign of recent activity. Very pleasant way to spend a fall morning.
